Dollmaking

Same mold, two versions. These are greenware porcelain pieces. Usually hands and heads are mostly refined at this stage and only needs little retouching after the softfire. For the rest of the pieces, a lot of sanding will be made after the first, low fire. One more tray to fill and the kiln will be on one more time 😊

First, low fire, done. The kiln is cooling and can not wait to open it but I should wait to tomorrow XD The softfired greenware will be polished using the wet method for more safety and once they are dry , the pieces will return to the kiln for final, highfire temperature.

The softfired greenware, now I can called them "bisque"; they look pinky, chalky and are extremely porous, is amazing how much water they can absorb at this stage, some of the pieces become notouriously heavy. They are still fragile, but not so much as before this first firing.

Once the pieces are bone dry they will be ready to go to the kiln again for the final firing at 1245 C degrees. Some of the dolls are made in our usual porcelain an are reserved, others are made in new porcelain types and will be painted with permanent pigments. I am crossing my fingers to see how they will turn out !
